Halt O'Carrick Spoiler Alert!

Warning! This page contains spoilers for [[The Kings of Clonmel and Halt's Peril]].

The Outsiders Cult were a criminal cult group led by Tennyson.

Description[]

For Information on the Outsider Religion, see Outsider Religion.

The Outsiders collected precious metals, especially gold, from villages. They claimed they needed it because it gave their god, Alseiass, the power to protect the village from Balsennis, Alseiass' mortal enemy. They fool the villagers by attacking the towns as Ballecenus' bandits, claiming that Alseiass will protect the village if offerings of gold and other precious metals are provided in order to make an altar. The bandit attacks will lessen and lessen, causing people to become more and more convinced, until the Outsiders have collected enough gold and leave in the night with it.

The Outsiders employ multiple tactics, including undermining villagers and manipulating how a event is seen, white-collared crime, assassinations, militant criminal band attacks and deception. They also train animals, such as War Dogs, to aid them in their hunts.

History[]

The Outsiders are the main antagonists of The Kings of Clonmel and their leader Tennyson is the main antagonist of Halt's Peril.

The Outsiders were initially based in Araluen and eventually became a dangerous threat that drew the attention of the Ranger Corp during 632 C.E. Oppose to the popular Ranger saying, 'one riot, one Ranger' it took the combined efforts of Halt, Crowley, Berrigan and several other experienced Rangers to best the Outsiders, who's poison has spread deep into the heart of the countryside. Finally, the Rangers were able to successfully destroy the Outsiders' hierarchy, break their influence and scattered its members, with many of its uncaptured members either going into hiding in isolated areas of Araluen or fleeing the kingdom all together. Several of these escapees fled across the western strait of sea between Araluen and the island-kingdom of Hibernia, where they eventually began regaining strength and recruiting Hibernians to their cult.

Sometime afterwards, the Outsiders fell under the command of a man named Tennyson (although it is currently unknown if Tennyson was an Araluen Outsider who fled to Hibernia or a Hibernian who found and joined the remnants of the Cult after they were scattered) and, sometime around 649 C.E., the Outsiders set their sights of taking control of Hibernia to use it as a foothold to return of Araluen. Tennyson surrounds himself with several members (who, like him, were completely aware of the Outsiders true ideals) who become his "priests". These "priests" were not unique in nationality to Araluen and Hibernia, with two members of Tennyson's inner circle originating from an archipelago of islands of the west of Hibernia. Under Tennyson's leadership, the Outsiders began undermining the country, causing havoc and then stepping in to save attacked towns, earning them the support of the people. Tennyson, however, knowing that, should he attempt an uprising, he would be unable to draw enough support to oppose the Hibernian kings, instead, allowed the Kings to retain their position while he became de facto ruler of six of the seven independent Hibernian kingdoms, assuming the true power and money until only the Kingdom of Clonmel was left free of Outsider control by the time of 651 C.E., which the Outsiders were already undermining.

While the Outsiders made their move towards Clonmel, Tennyson, who was planning to regain the Outsiders foothold in Araluen, sent two groups of Outsiders to the independant fishing village of Selsey and the northern settlement of Willey's Flat under the command of Farrell and Barrett respectively to establish the cult and seize control. Tennyson also hires a trio of Genovesan Assassins to protect him and carry out any dirty work he needs doing; and uses faked displays of power to convert hundreds of villagers to his cause, boosting his numbers until he has enough to try to politically remove the king's power and become de facto leader of all of Hibernia.

His plans are foiled by Will after he proves that Horace's drink was drugged by one of Tennyson's assassins. His converts turn on him and he is forced to flee Hibernia with his inner circle and the Genovesans to Picta. Meanwhile, Halt arranged with a newly-crowned King Sean for a troop of Araluen soldiers, knights and archers to travel to Hibernia to aid in rolling out and disbanding the now leaderless Outsiders still entrenched in the other six Hibernian kingdoms, imprisoning those of them who had been willingly involved in Tennyson's plot and breaking their control over the kingdom.

The Outsiders were eventually defeated and disbanded for good by Halt, Horace, Will and Malcolm in Halt's Peril and, during a battle against the aforementioned four, Tennyson was killed and all of his inner circle were apparently buried alive in a cave-in accidentally caused by Will and presumably killed. Halt later arranged for a troop of soldiers under the command of Ranger Harrison to hunt down and imprison the Outsider bandit gang that had been plaguing the area around Willey's Flat, a task that was presumably completed.

Affiliates[]

Members[]

The Outsiders hierarchy are divided into three separate fractions: the White Robes, white-collared criminals who, though they do not actively partake in the Outsiders' active crimes, are aware of them and help direct them from behind the scenes, bands of criminals who commit the Outsiders' dirty work, make false shows of Alseiass's power and terrorise the countryside, profiting from the villages they loot and destroy. The main body of the cult at full strength, however, are converted deluded countryfolk swept along by hope and Tennyson's riling words, but are in no way aware of the true motives of the cult's core member (although some converts, like Nolan and Kelly, were eventually promoted to inner members after welcoming a life of crime.

Name Notes Current Status
Tennyson Leader and alleged High Priest of Alseiass. Led the cult in their campaign to undermine Hibernia, using his orator skills to manipulate the common people into believing that Alseiass could protect them and successfully seizing underground control of five of the six kingdoms of Hibernia, intending too use the kingdom as a foothold to return the Outsiders to Araluen. Preached the supposed 'word of Alseiass' throughout the Clonmel countryside, as well as witnessed his criminal's attack on an unknown farm before eventually setting up camp in Mountshannon. Masterminded the supposed 'defeat' of 'Balsennis' bandits within Mountshannon and the planned all-out attack on Craikennis, then commanded Luciano to assassinate Kelly in order to tie-off lose ends to the Craikennis defeat. Led the Outsiders in their march on Dun Kilty and attempted to rally the capital's citizens against King Ferris, only to be cornered into pitting all his influence on a duel between the Sunrise Warrior (aka Horace) and his bodyguards Killeen and Gerard and subsequently ordered Luciano to drug Horace after Killeen's demise, only to be thwarted and subsequently flee after he was exposed, though not before sending Bacari and Marisi to assassinate Ferris. Subsequently escaped across the sea to Picta with his inner circle and set out for northern Araluen, during which he led his band in an attack on a Scotti farm. Ordered Bacari and Marisi to get rid of Will, Horace and Halt while he set up camp on the base of the Sandstone Cliffs, where he intended to trick his Willey's Flat converts into giving up their gold before fleeing Araluen for another country. Subsequently hosted a cavern rally, only for his trickery to be exposed by Halt posing as the shade of Ferris and attempted to flee as his inner circle battled the Special Task Force, only to fall to his death after Will accidently caused a tremor and cave in. Deceased

Accompanied his leader in his fleeing from Hibernia across the sea and partook in the attack on the Scotti farm, surrounding the settlement with the rest of the White Robes. Presumably took part in Tennyson's Cavern Rally, surrounding his leader, and took part in the subsequent battle and was buried alive in Will's accidental cave-in. Presumably Deceased
Luciano Hired Genovesan Leader. Employed for his skill in silent killings and subtle poisonings. Assassinated Kelly on Tennyson's orders and presumably later attempted to do the same to Will after the disguised Ranger began crying praise to the Sunrise Warrior. Drugged Horace at Tennyson's command and, afterwards, dispose of the evidence, only to be captured by Will and tricked into revealing the truth. Subsequently challenged the Araluen Ranger to a duel between his crossbow and Will's longbow, firing his bolt first, only to be killed after he stepped into the path of Will's arrow. Deceased
Bacari Hired Genovesan Assassin. Employed for his skill in silent killings and subtle poisonings. Presumably took part in Tennyson's Genovesans' attempt to assassinate Will after he began shouting words contrary to his employer's claims, only to be incapacitated. Later assassinated King Ferris, alongside Marisi, on Tennyson's orders before fleeing with the false prophet across the sea. Scouted for food as the Outsiders made their way through Picta and ruthlessly cut down a Scotti farmer and his wife with Marisi on Tennyson's orders. Set out to assassinate the Special Task Force within the Drowned Forest alongside Marisi and flees the scene after witnessing his confederate's death, though not before wounding Halt with a poisoned bolt. Subsequently tasked with keeping a watchful eye on a halted trio and was later tricked into bringing news to Tennyson of Halt's supposed 'death', only to be intercepted by Will and forced to reveal the poison he had tipped his bolt with after Horace poisoned Bacari himself. Later attempted to kill Horace as he made his escape, only for Will to confront his and kill him with a throwing knife to the heart.
Marisi Hired Genovesan Assassin. Employed for his skill in silent killings and subtle poisonings. Presumably took part in Tennyson's Genovesans' attempt to murder Will after the young Ranger began shouting words contrary to his employer's lies, only to be taken out by the Araluen. Assassinated King Ferris, alongside Bacari, on Tennyson's orders before fleeing with the false prophet across the Strait of Hibernia. Scouted for food as the Outsiders made their way through Picta and ruthlessly cut down a Scotti farmer and his wife with Bacari on Tennyson's orders. Caught sight of the Special Task Force and, upon reporting, set out to assassinate the trio within the Drowned Forest alongside Bacari. Engaged in a firing duel with Will and Halt, only to be killed by a pair of arrows fired by the pair.
Gerard Tennyson's bodyguard and champion. Used his brute strength to enforce Tennyson's will and acted as his defender alongside his brother, Killeen. Summoned the assassin Luciano on his leader's command and accompanied him during his first encounter with Halt and Horace in Mountshannon. Served as Horace's second opponent during the trials of single combat that would resolve which party (Tennyson's Outsiders and the Special Task Force) spoke the truth and nearly killed the drugged knight, only to be stopped by an arrow to the arm fired by Will. Presumably Imprisoned or Deceased

Directed a fake attack attempt on Mountshannon with thirty others as a illusionary display of the powers of Alseiass, posing as a follower of Balsennis who was 'driven off' by Tennyson and his acolytes with the power of the Golden God. Subsequently led his group to rendezvous with Padraig and his band on the outskirts of the lands around Craikennis and subsequently partook in the attack on Craikennis as a leading raider officer. Struck down by an arrow fired by Will while riding forwards to give a report to his leader.
