Mountains of Rain and Night

The Mountains of Rain and Night is a mountain range separating Morgarath's Plateau from the surrounding land.

Geography

Like the plateau itself, the mountains are south of Araluen and east of Celtica. A deep fissure separates the plateau from Celtica, while the mountains separate the plateau from Araluen. The only practical way to enter is through the Three Step Pass on the south-eastern border of Araluen. The mountains are implied to continue further into the center of the plateau. 

The mountains are noted as being particularly high up, as they are covered in ice. Additionally, some mountains are described as being "flat topped". This may be a misnomer, as mountains are elevated, pointed structures whereas plateaus are elevated areas with flat tops.

History

Prior to the First Araluen Civil War, Morgarath heard rumors of semi-intelligent creatures living in the mountains. Deciding to investigate, he ventured into the mountains and discovered the Wargals. It is unclear when he discovered the Kalkara. 

Morgarath, Lord of Rain and Night

After Morgarath failed in his attempt to take control of Araluen, he was exiled to the Plateau. He then took up residence in the caves of the plateau, retaining his hold on both the Wargals and the Kalkara. After years of plotting, he eventually used the two species in a second failed attempt to take over Araluen, the Second Araluen Civil War. 

The remaining two Kalkara were eventually killed, leaving the species extinct, and the Wargals returned to their natural child-like state once Morgarath was killed.
