The lance is a weapon mentioned in the Ranger's Apprentice series.
Similar to a spear, a lance was a long, thin and firm piece of wood. Occasionally made of oak or ash, the lance could be depicted in two ways.
The Jousting Lance is a long piece of wood. Slightly conical in shape, it had a guard for the wielder's hand. It was sometimes decorated with a banner or ribbons with the colours of the knight's coat of arms.
The Piercing Lance was similar to the weapon known as a spear. It was a straight, thin and strong piece of wood pointed at the end with a sharpened piece of metal. Araluen and Gallican knights both used it and wielders include Baron Morgarath of Araluen and Baron Joubert de Lassigny of Gallica.
