There were several Craftmasters in every fief of Araluen. They each had a special craft and train apprentices. Some Craftmasters ran schools and had large numbers of apprentices (such as a Battlemaster or Scribemaster), while others focused on one apprentice (such as a Rangers). It is said that in many fiefs the craftmasters rivaled each other, but in some fiefs like Redmont Fief, the craftmasters got along very well. With the exception of Rangers, all craftmasters are outranked by the baron of their fief.
As stated above, there were several types of craftmasters with a large variety of jobs. It is assumed that there were one of each type of craftmaster in every fief. The different craftmaster types and their jobs were:
- Battlemasters - Responsible for the training of knights and overall maintenance of the fief's levies.
- Heads of the Diplomatic Service - Handles diplomatic activity and training couriers
- Horsemasters - Trains the powerful battlehorses the kingdom's knights ride
- Kitchenmasters - Cooks for the main castle of the fief they serve in
- Rangers - Gathers intelligence, maintains order in their fiefs, and in times of war, leads armies or scouts ahead of them. Also train new Rangers.
- Scribemasters - Acts as a lawyer, writes important documents, and trains new scribes
- Armourer - Makes armor for soldiers of the fief.
- Blacksmith - Crafts weapons and tools for the fief.
